EDT vs. EDP: Which One Should You Actually Buy?

From the Journal

EDT (Eau de Toilette) has a lower fragrance oil concentration (roughly 5–15%) and lasts 3–5 hours, while EDP (Eau de Parfum) has a higher concentration (roughly 15–20%) and lasts 5–8 hours or longer. EDP is stronger, richer, and more expensive per bottle; EDT is lighter, more affordable, and easier to reapply through the day.

What the Letters Actually Mean

"EDT" and "EDP" refer to the concentration of pure fragrance (perfume oil) diluted in alcohol and water — not the scent itself. The same fragrance can exist in both an EDT and EDP version, and they'll smell similar but the EDP will be noticeably stronger and longer-lasting.

Which One Should You Choose?

●       Choose EDT if: you want something light for daily office wear, you're in a hot and humid climate where a heavy scent can feel overwhelming, or you like to switch fragrances often and reapply through the day.

●       Choose EDP if: you want a scent that lasts from morning meetings to evening plans without reapplying, you're buying for a special occasion, or you simply prefer a richer, more present fragrance.

Our [link: Eau D'energie Mist] is a great example of a lighter format — ideal for a quick refresh through the day rather than a single heavy application.

A Note on Price Per Wear

EDPs cost more upfront but you typically use less product per application because the concentration is higher — so the price-per-wear gap is smaller than the shelf price suggests.

FAQ

Q: Is EDP always better than EDT?

A: Not "better" — just different. EDP suits people who want longevity and richness; EDT suits people who prefer something lighter and want the flexibility to reapply.

Q: Can I wear EDP in summer?

A: Yes, but choose lighter fragrance families (citrus, aquatic, fresh) within EDP rather than heavy oriental or woody EDPs, which can feel overpowering in heat and humidity.

Q: Does EDT smell "cheaper" than EDP?

A: No — EDT versions of a fragrance use the same scent formula, just at a lower concentration. It smells lighter, not lower quality.

Q: How many sprays should I use for each?

A: As a starting point, 3–4 sprays of EDT or 2–3 sprays of EDP is usually enough — you can always build up, but it's harder to tone down an overapplied scent.
